Congratulations to Dr. Steven Abramowitch who was recently awarded the 2019 Diversity Lecture Award presented by the Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES).

The Diversity Lecture Award honors an individual, project, organization, or institution for outstanding contributions to improving gender and racial diversity in biomedical engineering. Dr. Abramowitch has an impressive list of accomplishments and commitment to improving diversity in BME. He is the Co-PI on 2 funded National Science Foundation (NSF) programs (PITTS STRIVE and GEPS) which focus on increasing representation of minorities in graduate programs. Dr. Abramowitch gave a presentation at the BMES Annual Meeting in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on October 17, 2019.

Congratulations, Steve! Very very proud of you!!! Your lecture had relevant contents and you delivered it with just the right tempo and emotion. Your audience followed your words with gripping intensity and in the end, all were moved by what you had to say!! Bravo!!!

Thank you, Dr. Woo. It really meant a lot to have you and Mrs. Woo there! Your positive comments after the talk are still sinking in– I still can’t wrap my head around them. Of course, as a student, you are always looking to impress your mentor. So now, with you focusing your feedback on the finer points of my presentations (tempo and emotion), it makes me feel like I have finally arrived as your student! The art of presentation was always an MSRC focus, so I’m especially glad that I was able to make you proud. I have learned from the best!
